Mining company switchgear
This
is an interior view of some of the switchgear provided to support a prime power
installation in Canada's Northwest Territories. There are five John Deere
powered generators sets housed in a single powerhouse.
In northern installations fuel economy and reliability are of paramount importance.
Frontier provided a "turn key" solution to this major international mining company.

published by John Deere, and highlights innovative uses of John Deere engines.
Frontier's customers have been featured in several recent issues:
Reimer International of Didsbury AB manufactures the Mobile
Volumentric Concrete Mixer. Think of it as a high-production batch plant on
wheels. All of the components stone, sand, cement, and water load
into separate compartments on a truck-mounted unit. These components are
precisely metered and mixed into fresh concrete in a special auger as the
Mobile Mixer unit is being discharged. A wireless remote control allows a
single operator to make adjustments to the mix and discharge rate. This design
makes it adaptable for many different work environments...

R & D
Management supplies diesel powered support units to oil camps. Servicing
oilfield support equipment in the isolated drilling camps of northwestern
Canada often requires driving painfully long distances. R&D Management,
Ltd. near Edmonton, Alberta, rents light towers and electrical support units to
these oil and gas companies with camps, and company owner Bob Andersen figures
the fewer required trips to service them, the better...

The generator sets are 100 kWe John Deere powered Stamford units. The engines are tier 3 model 4045HF285s with a rating of 158 hp (118 kWm) at 1800 rpm. The generators are UCI274Ds with a prime power rating of 100 kWe. Only one set operates on line at any time. The other unit is available as a standby set should the need arise. The load transfer is manual, by means of a three-pole, double throw transfer switch. Electrical distribution includes Crouse Hinds pin and sleeve connectors and twist-lock outlets. A 3000 litre fuel tank (660 imperial gallon) provides more than seven days of fuel for the generator sets. The generator sets are completely equipped to cope with the adverse weather conditions found in winter in northern Canada. Each unit is equipped with a diesel fired coolant heater and thermostatically controlled radiator shutters. Two 1000-gallon propane tanks provide cooking fuel for the kitchens. Travers Food Service aims to provide their clients with top quality camp services. We are pleased to have been selected as their power provider. |

Calgary Courthouse
We
reassembled a Kohler 1600REOZM standby generator set on the 22nd floor on the
South Tower for the new Calgary Law Courts Building. We supplied a pair of 1.5
MWe generator sets, a passel (tech. term) of transfer switches and a full
autoparalleling system for the two units. Interestingly, the sets are in
different, adjacent buildings and the switchgear is located on the 13th floor
of one of the buildings. The generators traveled separately owing to crane
capacity considerations. The units were reassembled once they were in
place.

Silenced, cold weather capable, 400 kWe Genset
for GE International
A 400 kWe generator set powered by a John Deere
6125H (tier 2) diesel engine is enclosed in a custom-built Trailmobile trailer.
The Newage Stamford model HCI434F alternator is capable of 400 kW output at
480V at 125 C temperature rise.
GE International employs this piece of equipment to provide field service for oil filled transformers. The sound attenuated generator enclosure is climate controlled by thermostatic radiator shutters and a diesel fuelled circulating block heater ensures that the engine will start in a sub-arctic environment.
Frontier Power provided a turn-key package that included design, construction, installation and testing.

Arctic Power
There are places where the
power just has to be reliable. Canada's arctic is one of those places.
When camp supplier Weatherhaven was called upon to provide facilities and power for a remote BHP mineral exploration site, they selected reliable prime power generator sets from Frontier Power Products. The units feature John Deere 6081 engines driving Newage-Stamford AC generators. Output ratings for the sets are 145 and 200 kWe. These fuel efficient PowerLine® generator sets are housed in our Quiet Power sound attenuating enclosures.

Weatherhaven, a world leader in the supply of temporary shelters, has relied on Frontier's generator sets for demanding sites in many parts of the world. Frontier is proud to be a Weatherhaven supplier. It is an endorsement of quality, efficiency and reliability to be chosen.
PowerTowers at Suncor
These
